We heard mid week (that a Sudanese family, with 3 children under 5, were coming to live in Colchester after being recently granted asylum and that the house had absolutely nothing in it except a fridge and cooker. They were simply grateful for a place of sanctuary – however the wonderful Colchester community came together to make sure that this didn’t happen. Our own Council have been helpful but as the family have been placed here from out of Borough there is little they can do. It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with the Islamic Community on this one 🙂 And also with many lovely contributors and some who knew nothing but chipped in out of the goodness of their hearts. It’s still a work in progress but when they move in tomorrow morning there is food and a place to sit, toys for the kids and even presents! Check out the before and after photos below!!! All in 3 days.
Our funds are low at present so we’d love to hear from you with fundraising plans that you would be willing to implement. We currently deliver around 100 hours of advocacy and support a week entirely through volunteers and some of them can frequently work up to 12 hours a day. Funds are used for small gifts to assist a family in education, transport, exam costs and essentials. None of us get paid and we love what we do. Funding is entirely dependent on your generosity. We have a Go Get funding page, or a bank account if you prefer to make a direct transfer or make a regular monthly contribution.
