Refugee Action – Colchester and Brightlingsea Refugee Support Network are very pleased to announce that from this week we will be accepting clothing donations for the refugees in Calais. A number of our volunteers have recently returned from Calais and can confirm how desperate the situation is there, and we have found a transport company who can deliver donations direct to the Calais warehouse for us. Financial donations direct to Care4Calais can still be made at https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/philiphorner1 .
The most urgently needed items at the moment are as listed below and these are the only items we can accept at present.
- Sleeping bags (even better if they’re winter ones and waterproof!)
- Men’s new boxer shorts (esp small and medium, tight fit only)
- Socks and gloves
- Men’s waterproof walking boots, sizes 38-45 (but most needed sizes 40-43)
- Warm, waterproof winter coats (especially small and medium sizes)
- Men’s jogging bottoms or jeans, size 26-34 waist, joggers with cuff bottom
- Hoodies
- Unlocked mobile phones with chargers
- Mobile phone external batteries
- Thermals (long johns and tops)
All items should be clean and undamaged, and of a quality that you should be happy to accept yourself.
Items can be dropped off in Colchester at 15 Queen Street or in Brightlingsea, please contact us via email to arrange a suitable time and location.
