On the 18th May, Peter Chillingworth, Mayor of Colchester asked us to bring some of the newly arrived families in Colchester to visit some farms in the area.
Both the Brownings at Great Tey and the Manders at Fordham welcomed us to their farms. Around 40 people came along and shared some lunch together. Highlights included a tractor trailer ride round the second farm and a fishing competition at the Brownings… and ice creams!
Peter and Ann Chilligworth stayed with us all day and were the most kind of hosts – truly creating a sense of shared passion about the beautiful Essex countryside. For many of the people who came to visit this was a reminder of farms they have left behind and miss but also an opportunity to speak about what crops they grew and what does well here.
