Forest School Update

As the Highwoods Forest School site was unavailable due to lockdown, we approached some friends who own a small wood and they were very happy for us to use it. It was decided to invite just one household to each session in order to limit numbers and to maintain social distancing rules.

We enjoyed warm, sunny weather for the first two sessions but had to postpone the third one because of potentially dangerous strong winds – it was rescheduled for a few days later when conditions were safe and the weather was better.

The families had a great time in the beautiful, lush green woodland, enjoying playing on the rope swings and hammock, building dens using our new tarps and ropes, lighting fires using flints and steels and toasting marshmallows.

We also set up a Tippy Tap handwashing system so that we could wash hands with soap and running water.

For some of these children, it was the first time they had left their homes in the last 12 weeks and some said it was “the best day ever “ and they wanted “to stay forever”.  It was a lot of fun for everyone involved.
