We are very pleased to announce that Refugee Action – Colchester has received a grant from Colchester Council to enable to us to run our popular Forest Schools for the next three years.
The money will enable us to purchase our own equipment and pay for sessions to be run with targeted groups within our clients.
We are particularly keen to get these up and running as soon as possible to combat the isolation that people are feeling due to the coronavirus restrictions, and will design the sessions to be compliant with the government recommendations on social contact.
If you know of people who would like to attend, please get in touch with Elizabeth Curry who will slot them into a suitable session as soon as we are able to start scheduling dates. We are planning to run separate tailored ‘Forest Schools’ for familes, men, and women, and also hope to have one or two ‘Beach Schools’ over the summer.
This work is designed to help break down social isolation and bring people together in a safe and welcoming environment. One of our clients recently told us that when they were inside buildings they felt that they were away from home as the architecture and internal decor are completely different from their country. Outside, in the woods, they could be anywhere, so they felt more at home.
